RAINES, Clarence

Source: Greencastle Star Press, 13 Feb 1892 p 1

On last Monday evening Clarance (sic), son of Robert and Mary Raines, residing about 4 miles east of this city, died very suddenly of heart disease.  The particulars of his sudden demise are that about 5:30 o’clock in the evening he was on his way to church at Fillmore, walking along the track of the I & St. LRR, accompanied by four other young men. His companions noticed him stagger and falter but ere they realized his serious condition he fell to the ground. They raised him up made a couch of their overcoats on the ground, placed Clarence thereon in the meanwhile rubbing him in a van attempt to resuscitate him but without avail; the vital spark had fled almost instantly.  Word was sent to his parents and sympathizing friends and neighbors conveyed the remains to his late home. Clarence had been troubled for years with organic disease of the heart and his sudden death was caused by an attack of heart disease. The bereaved family have the earnest sympathy of the community in their great bereavement. The funeral took place on Wednesday from the family residence; burial at Union Cemetery. - kbz
